Waldeck Capital has handed over the keys of the Augustine Hotel in Prague to operator Rocco Forte Collection, ahead of the opening of the luxury hotel on 14 May. Waldeck said the 101-room hotel, which it developed in Malá Strana, the historic lesser town of Prague, is touted as one of the most beautiful luxury hotels in Europe.
The Augustine was created from a complex of six historic buildings, including a former brewery and the 13th-century Augustinian St Thomas's Monastery, after which the hotel is named.
Sixteen of the 101 rooms are suites and provide views over Prague Castle, the courtyards, the monastery chapel and the city's main cathedral on the nearby hill. The 150 m2 Charles Suite and the Tower Suite consist of three floors, one for the lobby and living space, another for the bathroom and the top floor for the bedroom, with panoramic views across the rooftops of Prague.
Waldeck Capital is an investment banking firm which has undertaken a diverse range of commercial real estate developments in Central and Eastern Europe since 2001. The firm has completed 17 hotel projects since 1988, of which four are luxury hotels.
Tom Smit, CEO of Waldeck Capital, told PropertyEU recently that the firm's development activities will be limited to the luxury hotel sector for the time being. Smit also announced the launch of a EUR 500 mln Global Hospitality Recovery Fund to acquire distressed luxury hotels in Europe and the US.
