Spanish hotel chain Sol Meliá has announced the opening of its fifth hotel in Barcelona with the inauguration of the four-star Tryp Condal Mar hotel.
In a statement on Monday, the company said that it has signed an agreement with Spanish property and energy group Acciona to operate the 13,000 m2 property in the city's new 22@ business district. CB Richard Ellis advised Acciona Inmobiliaria on the operation.
Opened in 2005, the property will offer 178 rooms, a spa area and two restaurants over 14 floors.
The announcement comes shortly after the sale earlier in June of Sol Melia's Trip brand to US operator Wyndham Hotel Group for around EUR 43 mln. The transaction, which is expected to be completed in the next few months, envisages the possibility for Sol Melia to operate the Trip brand under a 20-year franchise agreement.
Last week, Sol Melia also announced the start of construction for its first hotel in Austria. Funded by a consortium of Bank Austria's real estate arm Bauträger Austria Immobilien and Wiener Entwicklungsgesellschaft für den Donauraum (WED), the ME Vienna hotel will be located within the DC Tower in the Austrian capital, and on completion it will be Vienna's highest tower, at 220 metres.
