Industrial property giant Prologis has signed a major lease at a build-to-suit development project with Sainsbury's Supermarkets in the UK.
The UK food retailer is to occupy a 93,000 m2 distribution centre to be developed by Prologis at the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT).
Daventry is a market town located about 120 kilometres north-west of London.
The facility will be situated on land within the Prologis DIRFT II development and adjacent to a fully-leased 78,000 m2 foot rail-connected distribution centre.
DIRFT II is located next to the M1 motorway and the West Coast Mainline railway, providing Sainsbury's new facility with both road and rail connectivity.
A new intermodal terminal, which will connect to the existing DIRFT railway sidings, will be installed alongside the building. DIRFT II is expected to encompass 204,00 m2 once it is fully built out.
Sainsbury's building has been designed to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) 'Very Good' accreditation and the best possible Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating for its size. Construction on the facility is scheduled to begin in early 2013.
Prologis had 1.7 million m2 of space completed and under development in the UK, as well as 371 hectares of land available for future development as at end-June 2012.
