Meydan Merter shopping center was opened in Istanbul at the beginning of August 2009 by Metro Group Asset Management.
The shopping center is heated and cooled by solar power. The solar chilling system on the roof of the centre is one of the largest of its kind. Another feature is a mobile convertible roof above the mall, which opens and closes depending on the weather. A large green area turns the shopping centre into a meeting point and the centre of Merter - a district rich in tradition - in the European part of the megacity.
The shopping centre has over 30,000 m2 of leasing space with 50 shops and restaurants on two floors. Anchor tenants are a Real hypermarket with 14,000 m2 and Media Markt with 7,000 m2.
Metro Group Asset Management said the shopping centre makes use of regenerative energy and relies on the latest technology to reduce CO2 emissions and power consumption.
