Wilma Project Development, the urban development department of the Matexi Group, has purchased the Antwerp Tower at de Keyserlei in Antwerp.
At 87 metres, the Antwerp Tower is the third-highest building and one of the largest office towers (24.000 m2) in Antwerp.
A redevelopment to a residential tower with apartments is considered to be one of the possibilities in the long term.
The tower is located in a prime location on the Frankrijklei, close to the Meir (which is the main shopping street) and at 300 metres from Antwerp Central Station.
Wilma says that it will, in a first phase, continue managing the building. 'In time, some refurbishment works will be carried out to increase the attractiveness of the building,' it said in a statement.
Wilma has developed a reputation as a redeveloper of large projects. In Antwerp, the company converted the Military Hospital to 't Groen kwartier', a new residential area. A full redevelopment is thought to be the most likely outcome for this project.
The seller is a Dutch family which was advised by Jones Lang LaSalle.
