Hotels in the German city of Hamburg recorded a 3.1% decrease in revenue per available room (RevPAR) during the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, according to the latest city review by Christie + Co.
The report, which uses data provided by STR Global, says preliminary figures for April suggest that this downward trend is continuing with a further 18.2% drop in RevPAR compared to the previous year. Although the average room rate increased by 2.4% in 2008 compared to the previous year, a moderate decline in occupancy rate of 1.8 percentage points (ppts) led to a broadly stable RevPAR performance for the year, Christie + Co. said.
