Expo Real, Europe's largest commercial property trade fair, has confirmed the number of exhibitors from Russia, the Gulf States and the US will be down at this year's event due to the prevailing global economic crisis.
Organising body Messe Munchen said real estate companies who are planning to exhibit their services at the fair in Munich this October are requesting smaller stands to cut costs. Messe Munchen said a clear trend was emerging: more countries, regions and locations are looking for synergies and merging their marketing interests into group stands.
The oraganiser claims the 'market concentration' is actually benefiting Expo Real in that it is taking place in the centre of the German property market, 'which is currently much more robust than other markets and thus becomes more attractive for foreign investors'.
With just under five months to go, the current level of exhibitor applications means that the fairground will occupy 64,000 m2 in six halls - one hall less than last year. Expo Real 2008 attracted a total of 1,856 exhibitors and 42,000 participants from 78 countries.
'Expo Real 2009 will occupy the same amount of space as in 2007, even though the industry at present still does not show very encouraging signs,' said Eugen Egetenmeir, a board member of Messe Munchen. 'The booking situation shows that the industry recognises our trade fair as the proper platform to provide opportunities to escape the crisis.'
