London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), the development vehicle driving plans for a £2 bn (EUR 2.48 bn) leisure destination in the southeast of England, has appointed Chris Townsend to the board as commercial director.
The leisure scheme will be built on the Swanscombe Peninsula in North Kent.
Townsend previously worked as commercial director for the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where he secured and managed over £2 bn of private finance and was responsible for all forms of revenue generation and procurement including sponsorship.
Prior to London 2012, he was group marketing director for Transport for London, responsible for the launch of the Oyster card.
LRCH unveiled plans in October to transform the 872-acre site at Swanscombe into one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe. The entertainment district will feature Europe’s largest indoor water park, theatres, live music venues, cinemas, restaurants, event space and hotels. LRCH has already assembled a development team which includes Development Securities, the principal land owner Lafarge, and construction company Brookfield Multiplex.
