UK REIT British Land has submitted a planning application for a major central London scheme.
The landmark project will see the construction of a 193,500 square feet (18,000 m2) mixed-use scheme on the site of the Clarges Estate in central London, which the REIT acquired last year.
The Mayfair site totals almost one acre and planning consent for an earlier scheme was granted in April 2011. The new plans envisage an increased residential element, which will see the construction of 36 units across a nine-storey building.
Under the proposals, demolition of the existing site would begin in 2013-14 with phased completion scheduled for 2017.
British Land head of offices Tim Roberts commented: ‘This is a rare opportunity to develop a freehold Mayfair site for a structurally under-supplied market as well as reinforcing British Land’s growing strength in London’s West End.’
