Insurer Aviva Investors has provided £50 mln (€69 mln) of senior secured debt to the UK government’s Priority Schools Building Programme.

The funding will enable the government to reach a final close on the first phase of its programme, under which 261 schools in urgent need of repair will be rebuilt or upgraded.

The Education Funding Agency has created an aggregator financing model to secure funding for 46 schools in the programme. The aggregator is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Public Partnerships, an LSE-listed infrastructure fund with senior funding provided by Aviva Investors and the European Investment Bank.
