AMP Capital has launched a new strategy to target mezzanine debt for infrastructure transactions in Asia-Pacific.
Simon La Greca, AMP Capitalβs head of infrastructure debt Asia, told ΒιΆΉΣ³» Real Assets that the newly launched Infrastructure Debt Asia-Pacific strategy would be funded through a separate account from an existing investor in the firmβs global infrastructure fund.
βThis investor is allocating new money to the strategy, and we will add to that over time with additional (separate) accounts and potentially a fund offering, La Greca said.
While bound by confidentiality not to disclose the identity of the investor or the sum invested, La Greca said the commitment was βa substantial amountβ which would be enough to initially make βa number of investmentsβ.
It has made its first mezzanine debt investment in Australia to be finalised next month.
Implementation of the new Infrastructure Debt Asia strategy follows AMP Capitalβs success in raising US$6.2bn (β¬5.3bn) last year for its fourth infrastructure debt strategy.
